In astronomy, a syzygy (yes, it sounds like a sneeze) is that cosmic occasion when three or more celestial objects decide to have a grand meetup, either lining up neatly (conjunction) or playing a game of "talk to the back" (opposition). Essentially, it’s the family reunion of the Sun, Earth, and Moon—or any planet lucky enough to get an invite.
For the record, syzygy (from Late Latin syzygia, itself from Ancient Greek συζυγία / suzugía, meaning "union") is the term used for such alignments. It’s mostly reserved for the Sun, Earth, and Moon... unless a cheeky planet decides to photobomb. 🌌
