Sacred Time: Seasons, Cycles, and Calendars

In this episode of Hex & Harmony, Michele, Tegan, and Belit explore how witchcraft and Judaism both honor the rhythm of sacred time. From the Wheel of the Year to the Jewish calendar, we trace the spirals of renewal, release, and rebirth that echo through every season.

✨ What We Talk About

  • The Wheel of the Year: How eight sabbats map the shifting tides of nature—four solar festivals (solstices and equinoxes) and four cross-quarter days—and how what began as a farmer’s guide has become a spiritual compass.

  • The Jewish Calendar: Why the Jewish calendar follows both the sun and moon, how leap years keep holidays in alignment with their seasons, and the beauty of having multiple “new years” for different facets of life.

  • Parallels Across Traditions:

    • Samhain & Sukkot: Ancestors, harvest, and honoring the past.

    • Yom Kippur & the Autumn Sabbats: Reflection, forgiveness, and release.

    • Hanukkah & Yule: Light in the darkness, faith, and renewal.

    • Imbolc & Tu B’Shvat: Seeds, beginnings, and the first stirrings of spring.

  • Cyclical Time as Sacred: Both traditions remind us that time isn’t linear—it’s a spiral. Each turn offers a chance to reflect, heal, and grow. Living in rhythm with the seasons helps us align body, spirit, and community under the same eternal sky.

🕯️ Key Takeaway

Sacred time calls us to move with life’s cycles instead of fighting them—to honor endings, celebrate beginnings, and trust that light always returns.

🌿 Your Turn

Reflect on what season of spirit you’re in right now. Are you planting seeds, tending growth, harvesting, or resting?

Hex and Harmony
Halloween Mischief Special

It’s almost Halloween and this holiday special is filled with ghostly tales, witchy debates, and a bit of magical mischief to set the tone for spooky season.

The episode begins with one of three original story creations. Tegan shared The Lamplighter’s Last Night, a haunting tale about a man lighting lamps in a fog-drenched town, each flame revealing the souls trapped within. Michele later told a creepy tale: The Barrel in the Attic, a chilling story of a mysterious barrel that rolls down the stairs all on its own. Beilit rounded up the stories with a poignant and eerie story about a young witch whose growing powers lead to rejection from her family and village.

Woven in between the tales the conversation turned to all things Halloween. The hosts traded opinions on their favorite movie witches. Candy loyalties were also confessed, and costume talk revealed a shared belief that Halloween is for everyone—whether you want to be spooky, silly, or simply yourself. When it came to jack-o’-lanterns, they agreed that carving is part of the magic, though practicality sometimes calls for a good faux pumpkin.

In true Hex and Harmony fashion, a little spellcraft made its way into the mix. Together, the hosts conjured a humorous spell to banish autocorrect—a lighthearted charm complete with a ritual circle, a saltwater-dipped stylus, and a chant that had everyone laughing:

The fun wrapped up with a Halloween-themed round of Would You Rather, pitting broom-flying against teleporting, friendly monsters against terrifying ones, and whimsical décor against spine-chilling scenes.

Our hosts created a special Halloween playlist for your listening pleasure. It’s filled with songs to stir your cauldron or soundtrack your pumpkin carving. And for a little historical intrigue, Michele has included links exploring whether Queen Elizabeth I may have had a touch of witchcraft herself.

So pour yourself something warm, light a candle, and enjoy the Hex and Harmony Halloween Mischief Special—a spooky, spirited celebration of the season.

Grande Iced Lavender Matcha with Oat Milk and a Pump of Cloud Syrup

This episode, we loosen things up and play with the elements in a whole new way. Instead of the usual deep reflection, we bring in a series of lighthearted, imaginative questions—asking what the elements might be like if they were people.

You’ll hear where our answers line up and where our personalities show through.

After a stretch of heavier, more serious episodes, this one gave us space for some cathartic laughter and creative release.

This episode also wraps up our series on the elements—just in time to get us ready for a Halloween special, Episode 20.

Crowned in Flame, Veiled in Stars: The Mystery of Spirit and Aether

Spirit—sometimes called aether—is the element that slips through our fingers when we try to define it. It is the breath behind all breaths, the unseen pulse that animates every flame, every stream, every gust of wind, every stone resting in the earth. Spirit is not something you hold, but something that holds you.

It is both everywhere and uniquely yours. Like an ocean made of countless drops, it moves through all beings, yet each person carries their own shimmer of its light. Some experience it as the quiet hum of the universe, others as a whisper in the heart, a presence felt more than seen. Spirit completes the circle of the elements—it’s what turns earth into sacred ground, fire into transformation, water into renewal, and air into inspiration.

To touch spirit, one doesn’t chase. Instead, we listen. We soften. We notice. It appears in meditation, in the hush of the forest, in the rise of song or prayer, in the simple beauty of being fully present. At first, it may feel faint, like tuning a radio to a hidden frequency. With practice, the signal grows stronger, until you realize it was always there—waiting.

And it is not here to judge or control. Spirit is not a harsh overseer, but a reminder that connection is our birthright. There are no keepers of gates, no “witch police.” Only the invitation to remember, again and again, that you are part of something vast and alive.

This conversation carries a different rhythm, softer and more spacious, as if we were speaking in whispers around a fire at midnight. Spirit asks nothing more than our attention—and in return, it offers the quiet knowing that everything is already woven together.

Forged in Passion, Will, and Spark: The Power and Transformation of Fire Magic

This week, things didn’t go exactly as planned. Major tech issues threw us off track, so instead of our usual group flow, we each recorded our responses individually. The episode has a slightly different sound, but the conversation around fire is still rich and meaningful.

Fire has always carried powerful symbolism in magical traditions. It represents passion, transformation, energy, creativity, and even divine connection. Across cultures, myths about fire highlight its importance: Prometheus stealing fire for humanity in Greek tradition, the Japanese fire god Kagutsuchi, the craftsmanship of Hephaestus and Vulcan, and the rebirth of the Phoenix found in stories around the world. Beyond myth, fire shows up in everyday life—in cooking, in the glow of candles, in the spectacle of fireworks—always reminding us of its transformative nature.

Each of us imagined fire’s voice and the stories it might tell. Tegan pictured a primal, ancient presence, whispering of first sparks, human gatherings, and the forging of weapons. Michele spoke of fire’s role in transformation, burning away impurities the way a sword is forged. Belit gave fire a powerful voice, something along the lines of Liam Neeson or Benedict Cumberbatch, and tied it to dragons and their fierce wisdom.

When it came to personal practices, fire showed up in simple yet profound ways. Michele uses it often in shamanic work, especially for release rituals. Belit works with a small cast iron cauldron to burn and release what no longer serves. Both approaches emphasized how effective and grounding fire can be when used in ritual, even in its most straightforward forms.

Despite the tech struggles, this episode became its own kind of transformation—just like fire itself.

Hex and Harmony
Woven of Whisper, Breath, and Sky: The Magic of Air

In this episode, we opened the windows—literally and metaphorically—to explore the magic of the air element. Before we were interrupted by a few technical hiccups (how fitting for Mercury retrograde!), we shared personal insights into the significance of air in their spiritual and magical practices. Air showed up as breath, wind, inspiration, communication, and the realm of the mind. We touched on how to navigate and work with air energy during Mercury retrograde, when communication tends to go haywire and clarity feels like it's floating just out of reach.

The conversation unfolded naturally from there. We described how we connect with air using incense, wind chimes, bells, and even our own voices through singing and prayer. We reflected on how air energy can uplift, inspire, and expand—but also how it can feel scattered or ungrounded. Feeling “too airy” is something to be aware of, with symptoms like overthinking, anxiety, and indecision taking center stage.

To find balance, try grounding practices like breath work, which can gently guide excess air energy back into harmony with the other elements. Breath is a bridge—not just between the inner and outer worlds, but also between stillness and movement, chaos and calm.

We also touched on myth and story. Names like Jupiter and Thor came up as sky gods with air connections. Tegan mentioned oral storytelling as a sacred way air carries memory and culture, with traditions like Welsh bardic tales aligning beautifully with this element. Calling the quarters in ritual was also mentioned as a familiar and powerful way air is invoked in magical circles.

As we wrapped up, we reflected on the wisdom air brings—its connection to truth, travel, and the unseen forces that move through and around us. The episode closes with a shared commitment to keep exploring, with fire as our next elemental focus.

If you're feeling scattered, disconnected, or caught in a swirl of thoughts, this conversation offers both companionship and practical insight. Let it remind you to breathe, to speak with intention, and to find your way back to center—one exhale at a time.

Listen in and let the air stir something in you. And don’t forget: fire’s coming next.

Hex and Harmony
The Gown the Goddess Wears: Earth Magic for Modern Witches

In this episode, we're slowing down and turning our attention to the Earth element—our most tangible and grounding force. Earth is more than just the dirt beneath our feet. It's the foundation of life, the body that holds us, and the quiet presence that teaches us patience, cycles, and nurturing.

We begin by exploring the characteristics of Earth: stability, grounding, fertility, and the rhythms of life and death. It’s deeply physical, connected to the body, the bones, the stones, and the plants that sustain us. When we work with Earth energy, we’re manifesting intentions in the slowest but most enduring way possible. It takes time—but the results last.

The Earth element is also the most accessible. It’s right there—beneath you. Walking barefoot, touching soil, or simply laying on the grass are simple but profound ways to connect. We also talk about ritual tools and offerings that help deepen this connection: things like cornmeal, copper pennies, coffee, and sacred herbs and crystals including cedar, basil, hematite, and obsidian. These practices aren’t about performance—they’re about presence.

But here’s where it gets serious: we’re living in a world where many people—especially younger generations—have become disconnected from Earth’s role in our lives. Food no longer looks like soil and seeds; it looks like a shrink-wrapped box. This disconnect leaves us ungrounded, anxious, and emotionally unstable. Earth reminds us to come back to our bodies, to care for ourselves properly, and to eat in a way that nourishes—not numbs.

We also touch on how Earth shows up in relationships and community. When we honor the Earth element, we create more peace, more patience, and more joy in our lives and with others. Imagine a world where kindness is rooted, not rushed. Earth calls us back to in-person connection, eye contact, and nurturing others with steady care.

Along the way, we challenge some common misconceptions—like the idea that Earth connection is only for “hippies” or people who live off the grid. This episode is about breaking that stereotype and reclaiming Earth energy as something vital, sacred, and available to everyone.

We close with reflections on Earth-associated archetypes and deities like Pachamama, Gaia, and Bridget—reminders of the divine feminine, the sacred mother, and the animal spirits (like elephants) who walk steadily and remember everything.

This conversation is your invitation to reconnect—not just to the planet beneath you, but to the parts of yourself that crave rhythm, nourishment, and rootedness. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t, but whatever you do—touch the Earth today.

Let this be the episode that brings you back home.

Hex and Harmony
Hexed or Harmless? The Magic of Superstitions

This week we're embracing the magic and mystery of the number 13 in honor of our 13th episode. Whether you think it’s cursed, sacred, or somewhere in between, this number has a lot of stories trailing behind it—and we’re not afraid to talk about them.

We kick things off by tracing the tangled roots of 13’s reputation for bad luck, from ancient Greek math to missing hotel floors. But here’s the twist: while the wider world might wince at 13, in witchcraft and pagan traditions, it's often revered—think 13 moon cycles, 13 witches in a coven. So... unlucky? Or just misunderstood?

Superstitions take center stage in this episode, from the deeply cultural to the totally bizarre. We share our personal favorites (and cringiest childhood experiments) like Southern New Year’s food magic, Jewish traditions that ward off the evil eye, and whether knocking on wood actually does anything. Spoiler: belief matters more than logic.

We get nostalgic about "Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board" and the Bloody Mary bathroom rituals that haunted our slumber parties. And we sprinkle in some weirder gems: licking a baby’s eyelids, spitting three times, blowing cinnamon into your home, and—of course—saying "rabbit, rabbit."

Ultimately, we explore how superstition and folk magic hold up a mirror to what we fear, what we hope, and what we inherit. Whether you roll your eyes or throw salt over your shoulder just in case, you’ll probably see a little of yourself in this conversation.

So grab your favorite protective talisman (or cinnamon shaker) and hit play. It’s time to make peace with the power of belief—and maybe give the number 13 a second chance.

Hex and Harmony
Tarot, Scrying, and Beyond: A Conversation about Divination

In this episode, we’re breaking down what divination actually is—beyond the stereotypes and pop culture misconceptions.

At its heart, divination is about receiving information through non-physical means. That might be through tarot, runes, pendulums, scrying, or even just noticing signs that seem to speak directly to you.

It’s not about predicting the future with certainty. It’s about listening. Reflecting. Making space for what your subconscious (or spirit guides, or higher self—whatever language resonates for you) might be trying to show you.

We’re sharing our personal stories, too—from early experiments with Ouija boards in our teens to the tools we now return to for clarity and comfort. You’ll hear why tarot and oracle cards are staples for us, and how practices like fire scrying and pendulum work have become trusted companions along the way. These aren’t just party tricks. They’re mirrors. They help us slow down, ask better questions, and check in with our inner knowing.

We’re also talking about ethics—because if you’re reading for someone else, even casually, it’s not something to take lightly. We explore what it means to hold space responsibly, why we avoid yes/no questions, and how we prepare ourselves before stepping into a reading, especially when someone’s paying for your insight.

And of course, we couldn't leave out a little tarot talk. You’ll hear why two of the most misunderstood cards—The Tower and Death—are actually some of our favorites. Spoiler: they’re not scary when you know what they really mean. They’re powerful reminders that change is necessary, and release makes room for growth.

If you’ve been curious about divination or looking to deepen your own practice, this episode is for you.

Witchcraft & Wild Companions: The Magic of Familiars and Spirit Animals

This episode was full of powerful stories, strong opinions, and animal magic. We gathered around the proverbial fire to explore the real difference between familiars, spirit animals, and power animals—and why it matters.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your pet cat is your familiar or questioned why a certain animal keeps showing up in your dreams, this one’s for you.

✨ Topics We Covered:

🔮 Familiars vs. Spirit Animals We unpacked the folklore, the fantasy, and the lived reality.

  • Familiars aren’t just pets—they’re magical partners, and consent is key.

  • Spirit animals usually arrive early in life and stay the course.

  • Power animals? They drop in when needed, then step back.

🦉 Personal Encounters Each of us brought stories that still give us chills:

  • Tegan shared how an owl appeared mid-spell and how horse guides her path.

  • Michele's connection to sea turtle has spanned a lifetime, with wolf and bear joining the circle.

  • Bëlît travels with a spiritual entourage: dragon, jaguar, and wolf.

👁️‍🗨️ How They Speak to Us Animal spirits don’t always “talk”—but they communicate.

  • Through dreams, gut feelings, repeating signs, and sometimes a voice that knows more than we do.

  • We emphasized the need to listen with all your senses—and to trust what you notice.

⚖️ Ethics Matter Working with animal spirits isn't cute or casual. It's sacred.

  • Always ask. Always thank. Always release when the time comes.

  • Respecting their boundaries is how we keep the relationship clear and clean.

🪶 Offerings & Gratitude

  • For physical animals: clean water, safe food (ethically given).

  • For spiritual allies: an altar, a whispered thank-you, a candle lit in the dark.

🗝️ What You'll Walk Away With

  • Clarity on what makes a familiar a familiar

  • A better sense of how animal spirits show up—and why

  • Tools to connect with your own animal allies with more respect and confidence

  • Real-world examples that will make you rethink that squirrel that keeps showing up

Hex and Harmony
Everyday Enchantments: How Modern Witches Practice Magic in Daily Life

This week’s episode is a cozy, real-talk exploration of everyday magic—the kind that fits between work emails, school pickups, and reheating your tea for the third time.

Michele and Tegan recorded this one right on the edge of the release window (as usual), but the magic flowed, casual and potent. No scripts. Just spells and stories.

🌀 Key Takeaways:

  • Everyday magic is simple and personal—no need for grand rituals or perfect setups.

  • Your interpretation of signs and omens matters more than any book definition.

  • Not every witch pulls a daily tarot card or writes down every dream—and that's okay.

    🔮 Topics We Covered:

    Everyday Magical Practices

    • Tegan’s rituals: Stirring her coffee with intention, drawing pentacles, lighting creativity candles.

    • Michele’s magic: More internal, mental focus—plus the occasional small ritual.

    • Both hosts confess: dream journaling and daily tarot? Still aspirational.

      Respecting Belief Differences

    • Michele keeps some practices private to honor family dynamics.

    • Tegan uses gentle language swaps (like “universe” instead of “God”) with her Christian mom.

    • Being a witch doesn’t mean being confrontational.

      Interpreting Signs and Omens

    • Tegan saw spider webs—sensed creativity and fate weaving.

    • Michele Immediately thought “trap.”

    • Point is: your meaning is the magic.

      Our Super Casual Podcast Process

    • We record right before release.

    • We try to track moon phases, but let’s be honest—sometimes we forget what day it is.

You’re getting our real selves, not a polished performance.

    ✨ Key Takeaways

    • Dream journaling helps uncover patterns and symbols. Use voice memos right when you wake up to capture the details while you’re still half in the dream world.

    • You’ll feel the difference between a regular dream and a mystical one. Trust that gut sense—magical dreams carry a different weight.

    • Astral projection requires preparation. Protect yourself, set clear intentions, and don’t give your power away.

    • Grounding matters just as much as flying. Yes, dream magic can be a potent tool for manifestation—but it only works when you’re rooted, too.

    🛏️ Topics Covered

    Dream Journaling Techniques

    • Voice-record dreams immediately upon waking

    • Track the date, moon phase, and key astrological events

    • Use tools like ChatGPT to transcribe and analyze recurring imagery

    • Consider tracking across menstrual cycles or life transitions like menopause

    Lucid Dreaming vs Astral Projection

    • Lucid dreaming: you’re aware while dreaming—it often happens spontaneously

    • Astral projection: takes more intention and usually happens while awake

    • Many experience a sudden “snap” back into their body

    • Creating an astral temple gives you a safe space to return to

    Safety in the Astral Realm

    • Sovereignty is non-negotiable

    • Ask unknown entities to speak their truth 3 times—yes, really

    • Never make deals or issue invitations unless you fully know who you’re dealing with

    • Bring your trusted guides with you for protection

Using Dream & Astral Magic for Manifestation

    • It can help bring your desires into reality

    • But it’s not a shortcut—it takes effort, discernment, and energetic skill

    • This kind of magic works best when paired with real-world action

👁️ Ready to start working with your dreams more intentionally? Grab your journal, set your protection, and start tracking. Your dreamwork practice can be more powerful than you realize—but only if you actually use it.

The Other Side of the Circle: Hexes & Baneful Magic

In this episode, we’re talking about the side of magic that people either whisper about—or argue over. We’re unpacking hexing, cursing, jinxing, and binding… and what really sets them apart.

You’ll hear why some practitioners say never touch baneful magic, while others view it as a tool—especially for protection. This isn’t a “one size fits all” kind of conversation. Cultural background, personal ethics, and tradition all shape how people approach baneful work.

    What We Cover:

    🔹 Definitions & Distinctions

    • Hex: Often tied to misfortune; historically rooted in German witchcraft.

    • Curse: Long-lasting harm or bad luck—usually the most serious.

    • Jinx: Minor chaos; usually easier to clear.

    • Binding: Stops behavior, can be defensive or offensive.

🔹 Controversy in the Magical Community

    • The ongoing debate: Should witches ever use magic to harm?

    • Why some reject the old “black vs. white” magic labels.

    • Ethical gray areas and when protection might require action.

    🔹 Traditions & Practices

    • Welsh perspectives: Baneful work exists, but it’s personal and rarely public.

    • The Jewish “pulsa denura” curse—real, rare, and reserved.

    • A nod to the Pennsylvania Dutch hexing traditions.

    🔹 Responsible Magic

    • Mindset and preparation are key.

    • Always work with protection and clear limits.

    • Start small: protection → freeze → reflect → then hex, if at all.

Wish We Knew: Witchy Wisdom for Beginners

    Episode Overview

Starting a witchcraft practice can feel overwhelming with so much information (and misinformation) out there. If we could go back in time, these are the things we wish we knew when we first started. In this episode, we’re cutting through the fluff and sharing hard-earned wisdom about magic, energy work, shadow work, and realistic expectations—so you don’t have to learn the hard way.

    Key Takeaways

🔮 Witchcraft isyour practice—trust yourself and don’t get stuck following other people’s rules.

🕯️ You don’t need fancy tools—creativity and intention matter more than aesthetics.

⚡ Energy work is real, but it takes time to develop and see results.

🌑 Shadow work is important, but don’t push yourself to the point of burnout.

✨ Magic isn’t instant—it requires patience, effort, and realistic expectations.

Things We Wish We Knew Sooner

    1. There’s No One Right Way

    • Witchcraft isn’t a formula—it’s a personal, evolving practice.

    • Trust your intuition, and don’t worry about following someone else’s “rules.”

    • Be skeptical of anyone who claims their way is theonly way.

    2. You Don’t Need Fancy Tools

    • The most powerful tools are the ones that feel meaningful toyou.

    • Kitchen herbs, rocks from your backyard, and handmade items can be just as magical as store-bought tools.

    • Don’t feel pressured to spend money on aesthetic witchcraft supplies.

  • 3. Energy Work Takes Time

    • Energy manipulation and visualization aren’t just imagination—they’re real skills.

    • You won’t always “feel” something right away, and that’s okay.

    • Like any practice, it takes time to build your energetic awareness and psychic strength.

     4. Shadow Work is Powerful—But Don’t Overdo It

    • Facing your fears, trauma, and subconscious patterns is important, but it’s heavy work.

    • Youdo not have to be in a constant state of self-excavation.

    • Give yourself permission to take breaks and integrate what you’ve learned.

    5. Witchcraft and Wicca Are Not the Same

    • Wicca is just one path within witchcraft—it’s not the whole picture.

    • Many beginner books blur the lines, making it seem like Wiccais witchcraft.

    • You can be a witch without following Wiccan beliefs or practices.

    6. Deity Work is Optional

    • You don’thave to work with deities to be a witch.

    • If you do, take your time—deity work is a serious commitment.

    • Not all deities will want to work with you, and that’s okay.

    7. Magic Has Limits

    • Magic isn’t a quick fix—it workswith reality, not against it.

    • Results may take time, show up in unexpected ways, or require mundane effort too.

    • Understanding your “sphere of influence” helps you work magic more effectively.
