This is a podcast about people...soldiers who served and sacrificed in the time of the Great War. It is a podcast where I bring the names carved in granite back to life...telling the stories of ordinary men (and a few women) who fought in WW1. Each episode is based on a unique biography written with care and compassion, aimed at helping us understand these ordinary soldiers. Each biography has been written and posted to Substack and Facebook...but I know that we are all busy. This podcast is for people 'on the go' and give them a chance to experience these interesting stories.

Heroes of the Great War - Episode 7 Making Black History with the 116th

February is Black History Month - in honour and recognition this biography profiles one of the young black men who fought and served in the front lines of the war. Private Gordon Douglas Brown was a machine gunner with the 116th. This is his important story.
