Hemingway Word for Word
Arnold Sabatelli
12 episodes

An analysis of Hemingway's stories and novels based on my many years of reading and writing about Hemingway and teaching him to high school and college students. I'm a writer and educator who has presented many essays at international Hemingway conferences and published articles on the nuance and complexity of his work. I put special emphasis on how his work echoes thinkers like Carl Jung and Maurice Merleau-Ponty, paying little attention to the deeds and misdeeds of his life, trying to ignore the tremendous shadow these cast on his art.

Episode 1: "Hills Like White Elephants"

For my inaugural podcast on the works of Ernest Hemingway, I will analyze one of his most often anthologized stories, "Hills Like White Elephants."  Working from a close look at point of view, I explore the way the story helps us to think deeply about how art helps us to express and more fully comprehend complex human emotions.
