Livet, friheden og prisen for at følge sin egen vej kan virke uoverskuelig, men hvad kræver det egentlig at bryde med samfundets forventninger, familie og kærlighed? I en samtale under Heartland 2025 deler den franske forfatter Constance Debré sine refleksioner over mod, personlig frigørelse og de valg, der kan ændre hele ens liv. Hun fortæller om sin radikale rejse fra profileret forsvarsadvokat, mor og medlem af en af Frankrigs mest magtfulde familier til at leve et liv på egne præmisser som forfatter og nyudsprunget lesbisk.
Debré debuterede i 2018 med romanen Playboy, hvor hun skildrer sin egen forvandling, og i den autobiografiske roman Love Me Tender (2020) undersøger hun, hvordan det er at bryde med normer om kærlighed, køn og moderskab - og hvad det koster at insistere på sin egen sandhed. Hendes bøger giver et intimt og poetisk indblik i, hvad personlig frihed betyder, og hvordan man navigerer i de konflikter, der opstår, når man vælger sit eget liv fremfor det, der forventes af én.
