James Freeman, one of the many convicts sent on Ships in the First Fleet, From England to Australia in 1787.

After arriving in Sydney 1788, So many convicts continued to steal from ration stores and officials tents.

Governor Phillip warned there would be death by hanging to anyone caught, but not before making James Freeman, The Hangman, as punishment for his crime.
