Hello, my friends!
Dennis Gebhart here, and welcome to this episode of Guru in Your Ear.
Today, we’re going to take a deep dive into a topic that seems simple, but is often misunderstood, even by experienced professionals:
What exactly is a permanent hair color molecule?
Now, I know you’ve probably heard a lot of statements like:
“The blue dye molecule is the largest of the three, blue, red, and yellow”
“You must have equal parts of all three primaries to have a balanced color”
“The blue molecule leaves the hair first, then red, then yellow”
And on, and on, and on!
But what if I told you… a permanent color molecule doesn’t even exist, at least, not until it develops inside the hair?
That’s right, it’s not a pre-made pigment, it’s something that forms.
And understanding how and when that happens changes the way we approach color formulation, retouching, and refreshing.
