Hop on the bus and travel across the Peak District in this miniseries of audio adventures. When Maria Passingham moved to Buxton and discovered the Great Days Out on the bus from Buxton booklet, she was curious to follow the routes and discover the region’s treasures. With single fares costing less than a coffee, the stress of finding a parking spot totally eradicated, and the bonus of being able to have a beer, she thought ‘what better way to explore my new home?’.
This series documents Maria’s Great Days Out, featuring immersive sounds from the region’s towns, villages, attractions, and of course buses, and conversations with people she meets along the way: Andrew, on an 8 hour pilgrimage to his mother’s grave; Andi, the charismatic cavern tour guide; and Suzanne, a business owner who’s still in disbelief that she gets to live where other people come on holiday.
These episodes will immerse you in local sounds and tidbits, in an opportunity to scope out Buxton and the Peak District from near or afar. And perhaps, just perhaps, inspire you to go on your own adventures by bus.

Maria checks off a couple of destinations that have long been on her list in one fell swoop. She jumps on the 61 to Hayfield to scope out the village, and in particular two pubs: the much lauded foodie spot The Pack Horse and the seemingly equally loved but now permanently closed The Royal. She later arranges to meet a member of the community fighting for its future, but will he show? Join the still optimistic Maria on her walk along the Sett Valley trail, with a beautiful viewpoint and a brief chat with a pick-axe-wielding local, and experience the dramatic sounds of The Torrs in New Mills.
