The End (165)
Today marks a pivotal point for the God Stuff podcast as we reach Episode 165. Yes, dear friends, this is our final episode. This decision wasn't made lightly; it's the culmination of deep reflection and consideration of the best way to invest my time. Despite the twinge of sadness, there is also a sense of relief and peace. The journey of the God Stuff podcast has been unforgettable, going bigger, better, and deeper in our understanding of Christ, Scripture, and our bond with God. While this chapter closes, our shared journey doesn't end here. You can still be part of the spiritual journey on YouTube (youtube.com/PathwayChurchRedding) where my preaching continues, and at the Veritas School where I teach regularly. Let's continue to delve into the truth together. Remember, keep the Word of God at the center of your life. Hold the gospel close to your heart, and let its truth guide you beyond emotions, cultural dictates, and anything else that may divert your path. I can't express how grateful I am for each of you, your support, your kind words, and your shared faith. As we wrap up the God Stuff podcast, I want to encourage you to stay in touch. Your journey is my journey, and my ministry continues. So, here's to the love and wisdom we've shared and to the exciting road ahead. Stay blessed, stay inspired, and continue living our faith to the fullest. The Subjective Genitive (157)
In Episode 157, we dive into the exciting world of grammar and explore the subjective genitive - a grammatical term that comes into play in a pretty common Bible verse. In fact, I preached about it in my recent sermon at Pathway Church. The sermon was part 17 in our series on ‘The Christian in Complete Armor’, where we discussed 2 Corinthians 10, the weapons of our warfare, and how the genitive comes into play. But why is this important for preachers and Bible teachers to understand?Tune in now, and let’s go bigger, better, and deeper! If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe to the God Stuff Podcast, so you're always the first to know when a new episode is released.Episode Timestamps:  00:00 - Intro04:26 - What 2 Corinthians 10:4 is Saying to Us06:50 - The Genitive Construction: Understanding the Obedience of Christ09:45 - 2 Corinthians 10:5 in Different Version14:28 - Syntax of New Testament Greek16:53 - Michael Kibbe's Article25:37 - OutroBiblical References:* 2 Corinthians 10:4* 2 Corinthians 10:5* Roman 5:19* Hebrews 5:8* Philippians 2:8* Romans 5:18About Our Host: Bill Giovannetti is the Senior Pastor at Pathway Church, Redding, California — an experienced senior pastor with a demonstrated history of working in the religious institutions’ industry. The Story of George Grenfell, Part 2 (156)
In Episode 156, we continue the remarkable tale of George Grenfell. If you haven't listened to the previous episode, you must start there before you jump into this one. George's journey takes us back to mid-1800s Africa when missionaries brought the gospel to an unknown continent. David Livingston created the only map available, and George set out to explore uncharted territories. We knew how he prayed for a boat, and the Lord provided a steamship, which they assembled in London and tested on the Thames River. We continue with the incredible journey of how they dismantled the steamship, boxed it up meticulously, and shipped it back to Africa in over a thousand boxes. But that's just the beginning of this awe-inspiring story. Get ready to be humbled, inspired, and fired up.Tune in now, and let’s go bigger, better, and deeper! If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe to the God Stuff Podcast, so you're always the first to know when a new episode is released.Episode Timestamps:  00:00 - Intro05:10 - Episode 155 Recap07:35 - The Second Phase of Grenfell's Missionary Service09:08 - Grenfell's Letter: Not Fitting with Other Missionary11:32 - Myth of Happy and Peaceful Primitive Tribes12:37 - Grenfell's Resiliency and Trip to England13:47 - Grenfell's Spiritual Success15:35 - Grenfell's Coming Home16:20 - Grenfell's Peaceful PassingAbout Our Host: Bill Giovannetti is the Senior Pastor at Pathway Church, Redding, California — an experienced senior pastor with a demonstrated history of working in the religious institutions’ industry. Have you ever heard the saying, "If you really want to fire up your Christian walk, read Christian biography of great Christian heroes of the past"? That's just what I did, and it led me to the extraordinary story of George Grenfell.George Grenfell's story intrigued me in Giants of the Missionary Trail, so I searched for his comprehensive biography. This book has magnificent photos of his work in Africa and is over a century old. I've lectured on him, and his narrative still resonates today. In Episode 152, we continue talking about revival and share quotes and stories I’ve collected over the years which I have never shared before. I also wanted to reference Charles Spurgeon’s book which was published way back in 1962.Spurgeon believed that revival was a work of God's sovereign grace and that it was something that could not be engineered or manipulated by human effort. Revival, Part 2 (151)
In Episode 151, we continue with my sermon two years ago at Pathway Church, where I talked about a hot topic these days—The Revival. As Christians, revival refers to our spiritual rebirth. In other terms, revival is a renewed adoration and devotion towards God.Throughout the history of the church, revival has meant God’s work lifting us out of spiritual neglect and worldliness into judgment, sincere aspirations to receive more of Christ and his word, pureness of existence, blissful worship and a strong dedication to missions. Revival, Part 1 (150)
In Episode 150, we go way back to a sermon I did two years ago at Pathway Church where I talked about The Great Awakening and Revival. It was a response to society's secularization and the main churches' corporate and materialistic orientation. The Great Awakening halted the spread of Enlightenment rationality amongst a large number of colonists. Some members embraced the revival, while others rejected it, resulting in divisions among religious groupings.Tune in now, and let’s go bigger, better, and deeper! If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe to the God Stuff Podcast, so you're always the first to know when a new episode is released.Episode Timestamps:  Intro – [00:00]Service Introduction – [03:32]What is Revival – [09:42]The First Great Awakening – [11:15]The Second Great Awakening – [20:20]The Third Awakening – [33:30]Final Thoughts – [37:40]Closing Prayer – [41:34]Outro – [42:36]Biblical References:* 2 Timothy 3:1-4* 2 Chronicles 7:14* John 1:29About Our Host: Bill Giovannetti is the Senior Pastor at Pathway Church, Redding, California — an experienced senior pastor with a demonstrated history of working in the religious institutions’ industry. The Canonicity of Scripture (149)
In Episode 149, we talk about the canonicity of scripture. It refers to the process through which the books of the Bible were validated, clarified, and adopted by the early church leaders.God alone determines canonicity. A book is neither canonical nor authoritative because of its age, legitimacy, or religious community. A book is regarded important because it is canonical, and not because it is or was valued. The Grace Breakthrough, Part 2 (146)
In Episode 146, we continue talking about one of the Grace Breakthrough books I authored, Grace Breakthrough: Exploding the Lies that Wound Your Confidence and Joy (The Grace Awakening Trilogy). What exactly is grace? It seems to be a simple question, yet the answer has many diverse perspectives. We may all be ashamed to confess that we have difficulty understanding one of the most often-used terms in the church today. Grace is the word. We often hear it characterized as "undeserved favor" or "receiving something we don't deserve." Knowing that grace is merited and that we would be lost without it should humble us. And from that humility should spring an unwavering thankfulness exhibited through a faithful, obedient life.Tune in now, and let’s go bigger, better, and deeper!
