Episode 8: Dementia Beyond Disease: A New Vision for Dementia Care

In this episode, Dr. Alexandra Papaioannou is joined by Dr. Allen Power. He’s a geriatrician, educator, and the author of two amazing books—Dementia Beyond Drugs and Dementia Beyond Disease. For years, Dr. Power has been helping us reimagine dementia care—not as something focused only on what’s been lost, but on what’s still possible.

In today’s episode, we will hear Dr. Power talk about dementia care and that it can be more than routines and medications. It can be full of identity, connection, meaning, and joy!

This episode is proudly supported by the CIHR Institute of Aging and the Betty Havens Prize for Knowledge Mobilization in Aging, awarded to Dr. Alexandra Papaioannou. Special thanks to creative directors Dr. Patricia Hewston and Caroline Marr, and strategic director Dr. Tricia Woo.
