Ep. 22: Pelvic floor therapy: The intervention you never knew you needed with Brittany Wheeler, DPT
In our latest episode, we interviewed Brittany Wheeler, DPT who specializes in pelvic floor therapy. When most people think of pelvic floor therapy, the assume it is only for those who suffer from urine leakage when coughing, jumping etc. In this episode we take a DEEP dive into ALL of the ways that pelvic floor therapy can help a multitude of ailments including:
Constipation
Lower abdominal pain and soreness
Painful periods
Pain with intercourse
Overactive bladder
Incontinence
POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome)
Trauma/Stress that is held in the pelvic floor
Prenatal and delivery preparation
Brittany also explains that pelvic floor therapy (when done correctly) is very individualized and that kegels are not a “one size fits all” approach to having a healthy pelvic floor. She discusses how posture can affect the pelvic floor and how the pelvic floor is tied into so many different functions of the body.
