This week's guest is Kao Saechao, aka Kaotonix, as his artist and producer name goes by. Kao Saechao. Kao is a Mien-American, born in a refugee camp in Thailand. He came to the United States when he was 5 years old.
He fell in love with music and art at a young age, starting with the violin. Kao played in a folk band called Strings n Things and was also a part of an orchestra where he learned to play Bach, Beethoven, and other types of classical music. He put music aside to pursue art and school until In college at UC Davis he ventured into the world of making beats.
With no formal education, he learned to record, mix, and master everything on his own. Kaotonix is the music project that he started in 2013 and has since garnered over 2.5 million plays on Soundcloud and over 4 million plays on YouTube. It focuses on fusing his love of hip hop, pop, and electronic music. His brand is based around authenticity, DIY, independence from a label, and visually it draws art from sunsets and clouds.
