“Softness scared me more than violence ever did”
Growing up in a machismo culture & household taught Kent to interact with the world from a short temper, violence, & yelling. He thought these were normal ways to handle life, because that’s what he saw growing up.
But when it was affecting his mental health & relationships, he sought therapy to liberate himself from this box.
He now says, “real masculinity is being able to be vulnerable. It’s a balance of strength and softness. It's the strength to stand firm in who you are and the softest to allow yourself to be open, vulnerable, and caring without the fear of appearing weak.”
Every man needs to listen to this episode, as well as every heterosexual women who doesn’t believe men like this exist.
We discuss:
🗣️ the dangers of perpetuating cycles of toxic masculinity, and the freedom that comes from dismantling it
🗣️ not giving people the full extent of who we are and how that impacts relationships with friends & lovers
🗣️ how many campfires he had with friends that he didn’t get to truly enjoy because he felt like he always had to be tough or constantly monitor the area for danger
🗣️ how we can create safer spaces for the men in our lives to liberate themselves from the boxes of masculinity that limit them
🗣️ and so much more !!
