Pat Greene interviews Tom Smith of To Live and Shave in LA.
I interviewed Tom Smith who is most well known for being the front man, and founder of the band To Live and Shave in LA. Tom also did a stint with Peaches of Immortality, and Pussy Galore. To Live and Shave operates more like a rotating collective of musicians on the fringe. Thurston Moore, Don Fleming, Andrew W.K. , Weasel Walter, Rat Bastard. Mark Morgan, and Ben Wolcott are some of the names who have played with TLASILA. Tom has taken cues from noise, musique concrete, the ethereal crooning of Scott Walker, and other sonic pioneers. His sound is constantly evolving and does not sit well in a comfort zone.
Tom Smith grew up in Adele Georgia, and briefly played with Michael Stipe in Athens, Georgia before Stipe formed REM. Smith has been living in Hannover Germany for the past 12 years.
