We’re Jake & Mitch, two lifelong pals on opposite coasts who love movies. Each week we recommend each other a film based on a prompt we choose. This leads to some fresh insight into each of our respective tastes as well as wildly different interpretations of both movies. Do Midsommar and Monsters Inc. work as a double feature? Is Titanic just Parasite set on a boat? Did Christopher Nolan steal all of his ideas from a lost French student film shot on a flip phone?
We try to keep things spoiler-free, so feel free to dive-in without seeing the movies beforehand if you’re on the fence, or watch along with us and see if Jake’s simply thinking way too deep about the color of the rug in the opening scene, or if Mitch somehow makes you realize that what you just watched was actually somehow like that other movie.
We hope our podcast encourages everyone to check out our favorite movies, seek out new ones, and above all, enjoy cinema.

Innocence, playfulness, and imagination on the big screen can provide us not only with a nostalgic dopamine rush but also help us reexamine our childhoods. Though we can’t recall our past lives like Uncle Boonmee, we certainly can reminisce upon the cul de sac where we grew up and reconnect – all through discussing our favorite movies.
In our fifth episode of the Fox Den Film Club we each discuss a film that reminds us of our childhood. For those seeking all those sentimental feelings, both good and bad, we hope these films can help you relive a piece of the past.
Jake selected The Spirit of the Beehive (1973, dir. Víctor Erice).
Mitch selected George Washington (2000, dir. David Gordon Green).
As always, it is not necessary to have seen either of these films prior to listening – but watching along with us could make it more fun! We try our best to avoid spoilers.
Enjoy and welcome to the Fox Den Film Club!
