Continuing our series of “Giving is,” on this episode we explore how “Giving is secret.”
In Mathew 6:4-1, Jesus instructs us to, “…take heed that you do not do your charitable deed before men to be seen by others… when you do a charitable deed do not sound a trumpet before you… do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing that your charitable deed may be in secret...”
Here, Jesus also addresses the motivation to give – is it attention, credit, or notoriety? The Lord shows that those things have no place in the Christian lifestyle or in giving. In many parables, Jesus expands on this teaching.
In the last parable of Matthew 25, Jesus describes two groups of people, of which one readily took care of the needs of others (“for I was hungry and you gave Me food…”). Jesus illustrates that giving was this group’s nature, and that this is the kind of giving He expects from His disciples.
In the Good Samaritan parable, Jesus explains that the Samaritan immediately responds to a need that he sees, not seeking something in return – he just did what he thought he should do. In a sense, Jesus Christ is the Good Samaritan – He heals, provides, and cares for others in the present and into the future; but He never said, “I am the Good Samaritan.” He articulates His teachings, His ways, in a humble way – and He is the Son of God!
Therefore, when we give, it should be in the same manner as the Lord Jesus. We do it quietly, but as a matter of course. We give, not for attention or credit, but out of love. It's fulfilling the two commandments: love of God and love of each other…

Continuando nuestra serie de «Dar es», en este episodio exploramos cómo «Dar es secreto».
En Mateo 6:1-4 (DHH), Jesús nos instruye: «No hagan sus buenas obras delante de la gente solo para que los demás los vean […], cuando ayudes a los necesitados, no lo publiques a los cuatro vientos […] cuando tú ayudes a los necesitados, no se lo cuentes ni siquiera a tu amigo más íntimo; hazlo en secreto».
Aquí, Jesús también aborda la motivación para dar: ¿atención, crédito o notoriedad? El Señor muestra que esas cosas no tienen cabida en el estilo de vida cristiano o en el dar. En muchas parábolas, Jesús amplía esta enseñanza.
En la última parábola de Mateo 25, Jesús describe dos grupos de personas, de los cuales uno se ocupaba de las necesidades de los demás («porque tuve hambre y me disteis de comer […]»). Jesús ilustra que dar era la naturaleza de este grupo, y que este es el tipo de dar que Él espera de Sus discípulos.
En la parábola del buen samaritano, Jesús explica que el samaritano responde inmediatamente a una necesidad que ve, sin buscar nada a cambio; simplemente hizo lo que pensó que debía hacer. En cierto sentido, Jesucristo es el Buen Samaritano: sana, provee y cuida a los demás en el presente y en el futuro; pero Él nunca dijo: «Yo soy el Buen Samaritano». Él articula Sus enseñanzas, Sus caminos, de una manera humilde, ¡y Él es el Hijo de Dios!
Por lo tanto, cuando damos, debe ser de la misma manera que el Señor Jesús. Lo hacemos en silencio, pero como una cuestión de rutina. Damos, no por atención o crédito, sino por amor. Es cumplir los dos mandamientos: amar a Dios y amarse unos a otros…
