Dementia
What happens when a loved one begins to experience memory loss or personality changes? How do we, as their family members, navigate the challenges of Dementia while preserving connection and care?
In this episode, Anne shares her personal experience caring for her mother, who lived with dementia in the last years of her life. Through heartfelt stories, Anne opens up about the progression of her mother’s condition, the ups, downs and surprising moments of joy and connection that emerged along the way.
Tools from Anne:
Meet them where they are and know that they are doing the best they can.
Don’t make them wrong for forgetting … they can’t help it.
Be 100% present with them … not in your head, not in the future, not in the past … right here, right now.
Pay attention to your energy … do they light up when they see you or when you walk in the room?
Speak to them from your heart.
Be kind to yourself and to them, as you navigate the changes all this creates in your relationship together.
