Her stories have appeared in The Fiddlehead, B & A Fiction, Event, The New Quarterly, and White Wall Review, as well as excerpted in Elisabeth Harvor’s fiction anthology, “A Room at the Heart of Things”. Originally from Montreal, Joanna now lives in Toronto with her husband and two children. And as just mentioned. Joanna is also the owner of the Toronto based linen store, Au Lit Linens . In 1981, Joanna’s mother Peggy Byron opened Boutique Au Lit in Montreal, one of the first bed linen shops in Canada to offer pure cotton sheets, instead of treated polyester. The store was an instant success, with people lining up outside the 700-square-foot store. Soon Byron expanded the business to include a factory where she manufactured her own collection of linens. Fifteen years later, Byron moved the retail end of the business to Toronto, where she would eventually take over a store almost ten times the size of her original boutique! And Today, Joanna who has developed her own passion for design and fine linens - is running the family business along with her husband, Miguel. When they're not in Toronto, they're travelling throughout Europe and the U.S, sourcing the world's finest linens, planning and designing new collections, tweeting, blogging, creating and changing the way people sleep. Their new flagship store is located at 147 Tycos Drive in Toronto and the space is approximately 10,000 square feet with 40 showcase beds, each styled in different fabrics, textures, and design themes. The Yoga Show with Jodi Fischtein and Signy Gissuradottir
On this episode of Finding Your Bliss, we have a show devoted to yoga and meditation. Celebrity Interviewer and Bliss Coach Judy Librach is joined by yoga instructor, Jodi Fischtein as well as the owner of 889 Community, Signy Gissuradottir.  Jodi Fischtein is a certified yoga instructor in Toronto and has been practicing yoga since 2000. Jodi began to consider yoga teaching training in 2007, and then began the slow journey to share what she has come to love. She received fundamental training (250 hrs) in Vinyasa and Hatha at The Yoga Sanctuary in Toronto in 2007-08 followed by PreNatal Yoga training. In 2010, she began her second training in Venice Beach, California to study the core modules of Prana Flow. She remains deeply grateful to studying with the founder of Prana Flow, Shiva Rea. In understanding Prana Flow methods, one can express the sequencing as kramas (stages) that lead to one’s full expression in asana. That year Jodi went to Kerala, India with Shiva Rea to understand local Ayurvedic customs, as well as Kalarippayattu, an ancient South Indian martial art tradition. As Jodi nears the completion of 500 hours in Prana Flow Yoga, she continues to serve both her personal practice and her students. In March 2014 Jodi immersed herself in the Mysore tradition for Primary Series at Purple Valley Yoga in Goa, India under the guidance of Petri Räisänen. This discipline also had an effect on her strength and agility. Today she humbly practices Ashtanga 4-5 times per week. Jodi also believes deeply in the cumulative benefits of Yin yoga. She began studying the concepts of TCM and Yin yoga with Tracy Soghrati in Toronto in 2011 and she has completed Phase 1 of Thai Yoga massage as she feels it brings a healing touch for hands-on adjustments for students in her Yin and Vinyasa classes. Jodi received her B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing at New York University and she is currently completing certification in Applied Specialization in Mindfulness Meditation at the University of Toronto. 889 Community is a female-led wellness studio and boutique that has been rooted in connection, growth, and authenticity since opening its doors in 2007. Its mission is simple: to welcome each person exactly as they are and help them feel truly at home in the space. At 889 Community, home means feeling respected and encouraged. It’s found within the body—both in and out of practice. It’s a space where meaningful connection lives and where real people come together to support one another. The teaching team at 889 Community is the heart of the studio. Each teacher brings knowledge, awareness, and a genuine commitment to guiding others in mind-body growth. 889 Community is devoted to holding space where individuals feel seen, valued, and supported—wherever they are on their journey. All offerings are intentionally created to foster a diverse and inclusive community. Whether someone is stepping onto the mat for the first time or deepening a long-standing practice, 889 Community meets them where they are. The 889 Shop is a thoughtfully curated lifestyle and wellness boutique. It features clean, natural beauty and self-care products, a full selection of props for at-home yoga, Pilates, barre, and meditation practices, and a versatile range of casual, active, and work-from-home clothing. Located in the heart of Yorkville at 101 Yorkville Avenue, Toronto, 889 Community invites everyone to come as they are—and to feel truly at home. Join us every Saturday at 1 PM on Finding Your Bliss.
