We are back, baby! In our first episode of the new year, we review Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut film, The Lost Daughter (2021). At this point, our expectations for “Netflix Originals” are very, very low, but this film exceeded those expectations! It was intense. It was emotional. Did this film make us question our entire future? Yes. Did we still like it? Absolutely. Enjoy listening as we yo-yo between deep conversations about motherhood and arbitrarily categorizing our new, made-up genre of film called “beach movie”.
Talking points: watching movies without each other, Letterboxd Corner, what counts as a “beach movie”, motherhood, depression, pondering our futures, the parallels between Nina and Leda, an Owen Wilson impression, and theorizing why Olivia Colman’s character did that.
