Cupid Calling by Viano Oniomoh
Let’s talk about Cupid Calling by Viano Oniomoh—a queer romance novel that’s so unique in its premise. It’s set on a reality dating show where thirty guys are competing for the attention of one bachelorette. But here’s the twist: two contestants, Ejiro and Obiora, end up falling for each other instead. That setup alone hooked me because it flips the traditional dating-show trope on its head in such a fresh way. Happy listening!!!

Blessings by Chuckwuebuka Ibeh
On this episode, i talked about how the novel serves as a lens to examine the tension between traditional Nigerian values and the modern aspirations of a younger generation. The way it captures how cultural norms—such as the emphasis of filial piety, community obligation, and adherence to tradition—often clash with contemporary ideals of individualism and autonomy.

Priest by Sierra Simone

Sierra Simone took a really bold artistic step with this book and gave readers an undiluted reading experience. And i am not talking about just the smut! On this episode, I talked about the things i love most about the book including:

  • Taboo and Faith in Eroticism
  • Intersections of Guilt, Sin, and Redemption
  • Religion as a Backdrop for Desire
  • Feminine Desire and Autonomy
  • Artistic Freedom vs. Respect for Religion

I hope you enjoy listening. Thank you.

The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun
This book has everything!!! From authenticity in the portrayal of LGBTQ+ romance, to the sensitivity in which mental health and neurodiversity is explored, and most importantly, an eye opener on asexuality.

The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi

On this episode, i discussed how Akwaeke Emezi explored the tension between Nigerian cultural traditions and the individual expression of queerness so realistically, it brought tears to my eyes. I especially appreciate how this novel highlight the larger issue of how Nigerian society, which is deeply rooted in heteronormative and patriarchal structures, struggles with accommodating non-conformist identities. The main points of this review/discussion are:

  • Navigating queer existence in a homophobic society.
  • Exploration of gender fluidity.
  • The role of hair as symbolism.
  • sexuality and secrecy
  • internalised homophobia and shame.
  • Spirituality and mysticism.

I hope you enjoy this episode as much as i did.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Is having seven husbands really a big deal? Ask the gorgeous and charismatic Evelyn Hugo who reaches for the things she wants without a care in the world. And if seven husbands is how she gets it, so be it. On this episode, I discussed the life Evelyn Hugo lived—her morality and manipulation, LGBTQ+ representation, portrayal of female empowerment, true love, biphobia and others. Enjoy!

Broken by Fatima Bala
No holds barred discussion on Broken by Fatima Bala. While reading this thought provoking book, some questions came into my mind about the intersectionality of love, desire, and faith. The love between Fai'za and Ahmad challenges religious boundaries, and i cannot help but wonder if this novel is suggesting that personal desire can or should override strict religious observance. Also, how exactly do modern relationships fit within traditional islamic frameworks? Finally, is this story encouraging or criticising the crossing of halal/haram boundaries?
