Dr. Frank Mitloehner on why we need to re-think the argument about methane emissions
This week on Farmland, Stella Meehan speaks to Dr Frank Mitloehner who is based at UC Davis in California, where he specialises in the atmospheric impacts of livestock focusing on methane emissions and how it differs from what other experts say. Dr. Mitloehner explains how methane is misunderstood and has a lifespan of only twelve years compared to CO2 from fossil fuels lasting a thousand years. But, he does admit that increasing the national herd will increase emissions and that being more effective milk producers is the key.
