Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of Expat Coffee Break, a podcast dedicated to sharing personal experiences of immigrants and telling their stories about living abroad.
My name is Javier, and in this episode, I have a very dear friend sharing his story of immigrating to the United States.
Oscar immigrated to the United States from Mexico when he was nineteen years old. He has been living abroad for over twenty years, and in that time, he jumped from several jobs, learned about life, jumped some hoops and created a beautiful family. He is now a full time dad, operating his own business and working on his higher education. Oscar is the perfect example of a human being that is always striving to do better despite his conditions.
In this episode, Oscar shares his experience growing up in Mexico, why he moved to the United States, how he immigrated, what was his first job, how did he felt moving to the US at nineteen and knowing almost nobody. Oscar´s personal experience has had many ups and downs, and you can tell by the level of energy of this episode that things were not easy.
He is one of my dearest friends that I have met while living in the United States, and of course, this is one of my favorite episodes so far.
By sharing this story and hearing about experiences that you don´t usually know about until you have already moved, I hope to assist in making a more educated decision to whoever is interested in immigrating from a developing country to the United States trying to build up a career starting with an entry level job, such as dish washer or cooking fast food. It is not easy, and Oscar has something to say about that.
