March Madness in the Man Cave included a special guest, an author who resides in Austin, TX.
Dr. Katie Russell Newland, who is a NOLA native, received her undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio and later completed her Phd at the University of Texas.
She stepped away from her life as an educator to focus on her passion for writing.
Katie, an avid reader and fan of several authors, has quite a story and authored a book called: A Season with Mom: Love, Loss, & the Ultimate Baseball Adventure.
This inspiring and emotional story will hit the shelves of bookstores across the country on April 6th, 2021. You can preorder and purchase a copy on all apps and websites of major book stores such as Amazon, Book People, etc.
Katie had a special relationship with mother. While growing up New Orleans, she and her mother, Anne, shared a love for baseball in particular the Chicago Cubs, watching games daily on WGN.
Katie and her mother made a pact to visit all 30 of the Major League Baseball stadium.
Sadly, her mother lost her life after a bout with cancer. Katie stepped away from her love of baseball for a couple of years and later battled and beat cancer herself.
She completed her PhD program at the University of Texas and decided to take an adventurous leap to honor her later mom by visiting and traveling to all of the MLB stadium in the summer of 2015.
That journey connected her to her mom and her memory in a way she didn't expect and it would later provide the motivation to write a book.
That summer of 2015 adventure ended in Chicago, an amazing dream come true for Katie. She tossed out the ceremonial 1st pitch before the Cubs game at Wrigley Field.
The rest is history.
