This story begins when Odin, Loki, and Hönir kill an otter, not realizing it is actually the son of a dwarf. The dwarf’s father demands a great ransom from the gods. To pay it, Loki steals gold from a dwarf named Andvari, who lives in a river. However, Andvari curses one of his treasures, and this curse eventually leads to great misfortunes.
