E8: Dyslexia's impact on mental & emotional well-being and ways to overcome it.
Dyslexia can have an impact of our sense of self worth, confidence and even lead to mental health problems Although this problem is becoming more understood, we are still seeing a correlation between intellectual difficulties and mental illness. Feeling like you are not as clever or book smart as our peers can cause problems in both children and adults. It knocks our confidence and results in low self esteem It is important to validate you feelings and build your awareness around strengths. As humans we are not all the same. It would be an awful boring world if we were. Something I heard when I was little that had stayed with me was "We wouldn't measure how successful a fish, an elephant or a giraffe were by their ability to climb a tree". Why are we doing this with our schooling system? So... next time your negative self critic raises their ugly head, recognise it. Then tell it get the boat πŸ›ΆπŸ‘‹πŸ» Remind yourself of your strengths in a more compassionate loving voice. It feels weird at the start but imagine you are talking to you as a child. Ask yourself, would I talk to a friend like this? Would I judge someone else for this or be as harsh? If no, treat yourself with the same kindness. Soon, that internal bully will loose its power over you! You got this. Thank you for listening, please share this with someone you think might benefit from what is said βœ¨πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’œ I would love to hear what you think on the @enlightenedbyaoife Instagram and I appreciate all the support, comments and sharesπŸ™πŸ»πŸ’œβœ¨ Wishing you happiness and healing, Aoife x
