07. I Need an Octopus

Earlier this week, Sara found herself unable to remember the name of a guy she dated less than a year and a half ago, and Nivedh got angry for the first time since 2015, but handled it markedly better than his younger self. This is to say: your podcast parents are getting older.

But with age comes wisdom (or something like that) so on today’s episode, Nivedh and Sara discuss attachment styles, and how one’s upbringing affects one’s approach to relating with others. They also talk about how attachment behavior impacts expectations, and how expectations impact one’s definition of “dating.” What can they say, reading all those mental health infographics on social media is starting to pay off!

Reflecting on their own personal styles of attachment, Nivedh encourages you to let him love you and never let you go, Sara just now became aware of the half-dozen relationships she never knew she was in, and Taylor had never heard of attachment styles before today.

Also on this episode, Emotionally Available gets a surprise guest for the second week in a row, when Sara’s mom calls in the middle of recording. Nivedh immediately sets off his Mom Charm Bomb™, and Sara’s mom publicly thanks a guy Sara went on two dates with four years ago for introducing her to the NBA subreddit.
