Cette recherche explore comment la structure spatiale de la communauté microbienne des racines est déterminée par la plante. Les auteurs ont découvert que des fuites localisées de l'acide aminé glutamine sont un facteur clé de l'attraction et de la colonisation bactérienne à des endroits précis de la racine. Ces fuites se produisent aux sites où la barrière cellulaire de l'endoderme, connue sous le nom de bande de Caspari, est absente ou compromise, agissant comme des niches métaboliques favorables à la prolifération bactérienne. En fin de compte, l'intégrité de cette barrière racinaire est essentielle pour restreindre la fourniture de nutriments et réguler un microbiome racinaire équilibré, prévenant ainsi la surprolifération bactérienne et l'activation chronique des réponses immunitaires de la plante.
