Jay Healy--Guide of all Trades, Swift Water Instructor and Master Story Teller
From running motor boats and rowing dories in the grand canyon to driving New Zealand style jet boats here in Moab, Utah, Jay Healy is a Guide of all Trades.
I wanted to get him on the podcast as a tribute to him and his many accomplishments both on and off the water. In this episode we talk about Jay’s story, his early guiding career, how he worked up the chain into becoming a grand canyon river guide, and what he’s up to now.
Speaking of Grand Canyon, Jay wrote a beautiful post on social media awhile back that inspired me to get him on the show. Since I’ll be launching on my first trip soon, I thought I’d highlight him and his beautiful words to help get you all excited about the season. Here's his post:
I’m starting to have dreams of Lava... the unmatched intensity of focus. It’s only been 18 months, and I think I finally got all the silt off my body. But, some has found its way into the fabric of my subconscious. I have counted the trips along the way but that’s not what propels me.. it’s the call to be embraced by the depths, to hear the deafening silence, to feel the elements again, to not go inside for months on end, but to be dirty and mostly submerge myself in reality...soon my old friend! #alwaysabove
