Room #6 - Accelerating Youth Engagement at Pre-Cop 26 with Hoor Ahli

On the 5th November of 2021, #EcoHouse is pleased to announce the last #speaker of the season, @hoorahli (Hoor Ahli) UAE's Nature ambassador, member of Emirates Nature (WWF), and Environment Agency Abu Dhabi. She's also UAE's youth delegate at the COP26 summit.

Timestamps:

[0:00 - 0:53] Hoor, we always like to open up our episodes by asking our guests about the thing that inspired them to engulf in the environmental field and advocate for nature. So, can you share with us your story of how did you become a nature ambassador?

[0:54 - 2:59] You are currently part of the youth committee participating in COP 26, for our listeners who are not familiar with COP 26, Conference of Parties is when governments, NGOs, trade unions, businesses, and everyone else with an interest in climate change meet to review and negotiate global action and this year marks the 26th year, a determining year. We have entered a sensitive decade, basically the decade of action because it's our last chance to achieve climate mitigation. In your opinion, why do you think it’s important for youth to be part of the decision-making process and have a platform to engage in and safely share their thoughts?

[3:00 - 4:40] *Recently,* there was a proposal submitted by youth to COP 26. Can you please brief us on the key points that the proposal tackles? [4:41 - 6:32]

[6:33 - 7:57] What is going to be different in this year’s *COP* in your opinion? What kind of outcomes are we hoping to achieve and how is the youth participation going to help?

[7:58 - 9:06] In your experience what is the best way to limit human-caused global warming?

[9:07 - 11:42] How important is leadership in our fight against climate change, to have actual leaders who take responsibilities and act upon them?

[11:43 - 12:51] Hoor you are representing emirates *and also* in one way or another representing the demands of the middle east and Arab world because we share a lot of common concerns and incidents. So, how do you describe the response to climate change has been like in the middle east with all the unfortunate circumstances going around and the limited abilities that these countries entail? How can we improve our infrastructure and build a more concrete framework that can effectively combat environmental change and reduce its consequences?

[12:52 - 14:38] Finally, would you like to give advice for our listeners today, particularly youth that is demanding that their voices be heard?
