A Glimpse Into My Life - Describing Your Daily World

Hello and welcome to our session today. We're going to explore the language we use to talk about our personal world: our homes, the people in our lives, and the rhythm of our days. It’s all about describing personal information and daily life in natural, fluent British English.

Today, we will focus on a selection of useful words and phrases. Let's quickly go over them. We have: residence, as in, my main place of residence; sibling, in the phrase, a close relationship with a sibling; acquaintance, used like, a casual acquaintance; household, for example, a busy household; routine, as in, a daily routine; schedule, in the chunk, a packed schedule; get-together, used as, a casual get-together; priority, for instance, to set a priority; and a new word, downtime, as in, to have some downtime.

Then we have some verbs: commute, in the phrase, the daily commute to work; tackle, like, to tackle a task; unwind, as in, to unwind after a long day; cherish, meaning, to cherish the quiet moments; and two new phrases, touch base, for example, to touch base with someone, and to be swamped with, as in, to be swamped with work.

And finally, some describing words: punctual, used as, to be very punctual; sociable, as in, a sociable person; hectic, in the chunk, a hectic lifestyle; content, meaning to feel content with life; and the adverb occasionally, for instance, to meet up occasionally.
