How has your relationship with money changed (or stayed the same) as you've aged?
Vik chops it up with our one and only most beloved Dan from Scarborough, England during an autumn evening at Berlin Bar in the Arts District, Las Vegas.
Ah. Miscommunication in the workplace. When your common language amongst peers is English. But your culture and worldview shape how you interpret verbal (and non-verbal!) cues differently.
Which of your friends make your parents nervous? That's Vince for us. And for no good reason other than Vince being 10 years younger than my Mom and Dad, which freaks them out.
"How are you best friends with someone as old as us?"
Cos' Vince is still a kid.
And us kids are getting older so we're starting to plan for the future. Like where to rendezvous for holidays when we're all living in Asia Pacific!
Vik and I can talk each others' faces off regardless of the setting - doesn't matter if we're shuffling about in the kitchen catching each other in between my Zoom calls or if it is in our car for 10 out of 11 hours during a drive up from Vegas to Boise.
But wine bars are our jam. It's where we truly turn off and turn up.
Summer 2023 natty wine bar shoutouts go out to Glouglou in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and Garagiste in Las Vegas, Nevada.
We once spent over 24 hours straight without leaving the apartment when visiting our BFFs Big and Tini in Munich because we were having too much fun eating, drinking, and merrymaking at home.
Plop that bum of yours onto the sofa and pour yourself a glass of sumpin' sumpin' while you listen into this merry foursome convo in Berlin after spending 24 hours a day for 10 consecutive summer holiday days together!
Some things bring out the best in people. A long haul flight is not one of those things.
Moving country is like moving house: both bring equal parts risk and healthy optimism to unlock an exciting new future for yourself. And when you happen to find a life partner as a result, what a gift to gift yourself.
We talk big dreams and walk down memory lane with our dear couple friends Aleksa and Daniela - Aleksa was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, while Daniela hails from Barranquilla, Colombia - during our summer 2023 evening hang in our former home city (Heimat, heyyyy!) of Berlin, Germany.
Come with us for a bit of armchair travel as we take you around Egypt, Australia, India, Thailand, and Mars.
It's raspy solo dolo Tiff taking in all the feels and sounds of the evening on the MUZE Hotel Utrecht balcony: reflections on homecoming and familiarity during the wettest, rainiest two weeks of 2023 European summer plus a fun reminder that good travel decisions made nearly a year ago can really pay off.
The last time we hung out with my grand aunt and uncle, Auntie Eng and Uncle Piet, in Nieuw Vennep, The Netherlands was on a grey cold day in the winter of 2019. This time around, we let them know that we have a new *hobby* of recording conversations with friends and family (and sharing out for public consumption hurrah)! Lucky for us, they were giddy about using mics and wanted to talk our faces off.
You'll hear three different languages in this show - English, Dutch, and Bahasa Indonesia - and that's because Auntie Eng and I communicate in Indonesian, Auntie Eng and Uncle Piet communicate to each other in Dutch, and in turn, Uncle Piet speaks to Vik and me in English. A smörgåsbord for your little ear drums! And one that we'll recap in English at a later time.
Our little sis is all grown up!
We've known Patrick since our 2015 Bangkok days when she was organising social events for Chulalongkorn University's student exchange program. Chula Pat could've never imagined that 2023 Pat would have already saved a life at 30,000 feet in the air as a flight attendant on a top tier international airline.
And good thing for those uni coordinator skills because we managed to squeeze in a quick Amsterdam-Schiphol airport hotel hang before her next flight sector. We learn that Pat's currently looking for a boyfriend and not a sugar daddy (but times on those dating apps are tough) and that passengers who engage in mile high club activities have, well, questionable hygiene.
Our first in this series of DRIP KOPI Euro treasures with friends and fam kicks off with Ryana, my bestie in Sydney who I've known for a whopping 18 years (!!!!!!) now - that's freaking half my life! Even though we've lived oceans apart for the majority of that time, we still like to leave each other random silly voice notes every now and then, have a hearty long FaceTime at least once per year, and have somehow made it possible to see each other in person about every five years. It's such a celebration of deep love that we've cultivated in our friendship that allows us to pick up where we left off every single time.
For this episode, I went over to Ryana's hotel room in Paris to sit on her bed and mooch off of her strong WiFi for a couple hours so I could get work done while she enjoyed a croissant and scrolled endlessly through Instagram next to me. We finally mic'd up and you'll hear us jump from topic to topic as we'd normally do: talking story of family drama and trauma, aging and dying, as well as personal hygiene and genetic predispositions. It's like an extra pumped up pressie especially for all our Chinese-Indonesian third culture homies out there!
Whenever Ryana and I get together, we always mix between English and Bahasa Indonesia. And even if you're not bilingual in these two languages, you'll still be able to appreciate the sentiment of our stories and have a laugh at the jokes - or a laugh at our laughs.
We're taking this show on the road! First stop: Amsterdam. And what better way to kick off the adventures than a good ol' 6 AM people watching sesh at the Volkshotel in Amsterdam Oost.
What do you do when you're taking your morning poo? Tiff often hears Vik cackling a storm during his precious quiet time and that's cos' he's sending meme upon meme to his friends while on the Toto throne.
Meme theme of the week: 'burb vs. city life.
Come along for the Tiff + Vik world tour.
Vik and the bro-in-law Mike come together on this episode of DRIP KOPI. They crack the reason why not all international flight attendants make racks, spill the tea on which airport Rolex store gives you the best chance at a Roley, and question whether martinis with blue cheese olives are really a "Las Vegas thing".
It's the eve of The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Course so what better way to celebrate than SOLO DOLO Tiff commentary as she chips and putts her way to victory at Highland Falls in Las Vegas!
*roars of applause*
*beer cans all over the green*
*Tiff rolling in the sand of a green-side bunker*
What does it mean to leave a lasting positive impression?
And how about when you're trying to find a friendly way to quit your job?
Take a listen to Tiff and Vik's take as well as how having a playful outlook like that of MotoGP racer Valentino Rossi sets us up for success in life, work, and sport.
** Bonus Hot Tiff Tip ** When your body says you gotta quit this gig O_O
A deviated septum doesn't keep Jared Riessen away from rolling (on the mat!) at 6 AM. He talks about how he continues to practice while breathing through one nostril, how Zuck could probably smoke him in a year, and what falconeers get up to in fancy Las Vegas shopping districts.
Having acute awareness of your body as it moves through time and space (aka 'proprioception') is a superpower that you can tap into just by closing your eyes.
And same thing goes for building up your internal mind-body connection and the swirl of "gut" feelings.
What's your body saying right now? Will you take a moment to listen?
When you're done, have a listen to our chat at the outdoor courtyard of UnCommons Las Vegas. ;)
The humble kopi (coffee) bean will tell ya that variety is the spice of life. And my goodness, isn't that what we craaaave in a rich and juicy podcast?
That's why we're getting mic'ed up and kicking off season 1 of DRIP KOPI.
It's going to be a hot mix of fun and serious. Goss[ip] and mem[orie]s. The unexpected and sometimes uncomfortable.
Eavesdrop wherever you get your good podcasts.
