High tech, no tech, and everything in between – why it matters for in house lawyers with Mel Scott (ep 85)

I’m joined by fellow podcaster, Mel Scott. Mel is the host of Counsel, a podcast about in house lawyer life that she launched during covid lockdown. Mel has worked in house across multiple industries and is a passionate advocate for what I call “doing law differently in house”. For Mel, this includes shining the light on in house lawyering as a legitimate career alternative to the single narrative we’re led to believe at uni.

Today, Mel is the Senior Counsel at Megaport Limited, a global technology company founded in Australia, that ‘does computer networking differently’.  In this episode, Mel gives us a glimpse into in house life at Megaport. As you’d rightly expect from a global tech company, part of their “doing law differently” story is about technology, but it is about *so* much more than tech.

I also talk to Mel about her podcast, Counsel, including why she started it and what she’s learned from it and Mel leaves us with some valuable advice that every lawyer needs to be reminded of from time to time – “progress is better than perfection!”

Thank you once again to Legally Yours and LawCPD for sponsoring this episode and making it possible for me to keep bringing these episodes to you.
