Ferrocolor HD - InDeep Nov 2013 (InDa Sessions 1) It's May 2015 and I'm currently in India, seven weeks into a six month sabbatical. After a month of traveling and site seeing we’ve landed in Varkala, Kerala. It's low season at this cliff-top beach town and so the place is quiet, thanks to the forthcoming monsoon. We checked into InDa Hotel for three days and have been here for three weeks. Our first week was so rainy that locals were suggesting the monsoon had come early. What better opportunity to kick back and catch up on some mix playlists that have been sitting untouched for years. Given the rain and grey skies, I homed-in on something reflective to begin: a selection of deep house grooves originally compiled in November 2013. But this isn't miserable, cold, London rain. It’s hot, humid and thundering. In fact, the steamy weather you hear in the mix was recorded from the terrace of our bungalow here at InDa. These tunes may be two years old, but they blend perfectly today. Tracks of note include Wicked Games. Complete with Jamie XX-style steel pan climax, it transcends the Chris Isaak-crooned 80s original, of which I was never a fan. The Bob Moses track, All I Want, also takes a brilliant diversion towards the end when the bassline kicks in. I first stumbled on All I Want via Ben Watt’s BBC 6Music show. Mario Basanov works his magic on Crazy P’s Changes before we get a dawn glimpse of Cocktail Skies. Must be a shepherd’s warning. Enjoy! As Type 1 ‘Normal’ bias tape from a budget brand it was quite popular through the decade as a cheaper alternative to the likes of TDK-D.
