The first mixtape I ever recorded: STONED SOUL PICNIC (1993) 25 Year Anniversary. SIDE A
So here it is, after many, many years of not having a copy of the first mixtape (yes, as in cassette tape!) I ever recorded, some friends came through for me. My Umoja Hi Fi compadre DJ Aaron Paar takes a trip to NYC this year and links with Tracy Levenstein who pulls out an O.G. copy and I was blessed enough for Tracy to lend it to me. So what'd I do?, I digitized it. This is a 100% vinyl mix recorded to 1/2 tape. The influence of this mix is ATCQ, Black Moon, and Dr. Dre respectively. It's also heavily influenced by the London rare groove scene and my love of discovering breaks and soul music that laid the foundation for hip hop. Here's the tracklisting...
1. James Brown - Popcorn With A Feeling.
2. Al Green - I'm So Glad You're Mine
3. The Isley Brothers - Between The Sheets
4. Roy Ayers - Searching
5. Juicy - Sugar Free
6. Patrice Rushen - Remind Me
7. Mtume - Juicy Fruit
8. Barry White - Playing Your Game, Baby
9. Omar - There's Nothing Like This
10. Herbie Hancock - Watermelon Man
11. Grover Washington Jr. - Loran's Dance
12. Grover Washington Jr. - Hydra
13. Leon Haywood - I Wanna Do Something freaky To You
14. Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Everybody Loves The Sunshine
Run Time: 44:10
Side B coming soon (with shoutouts)
