Elected to Parliament at just 30 years old, Peter quickly rose through the ranks, becoming one of the youngest Ministers since Federation. Over his career, he has held numerous major portfolios, including Health, Defence, and Immigration. As Minister for Defence, Peter delivered record funding and critical resources for Australia’s security. In his role as the inaugural Home Affairs Minister, he oversaw national security operations across the Australian Federal Police, Border Force, and intelligence agencies.  

Peter’s contributions to Australia’s health system are equally notable, having established the $20 billion Medical Research Future Fund during his tenure as Health Minister. Throughout his career, Peter has demonstrated a strong commitment to safeguarding Australia’s borders, communities, and future prosperity.
