S1E2 The Background, Part 1

Jackson sits down with Dr. Elinor Grusin, a longtime journalism professor at the University of Memphis and one of the masterminds behind the Teen Appeal. This is the first of a two-part episode that takes a closer look at the inner workings of the Teen Appeal and its profound impact on the community. Grusin, a prominent figure in Memphis journalism, conceived the idea for the Teen Appeal in 1996 and dedicated the next 11 years of her life to making it a success. Her tireless efforts provided high school students with a platform to not only learn journalism skills but also glimpse into college life, with the hope of inspiring hundreds of Memphis students to pursue university degrees after high school. Throughout the journey, Grusin and TA students produced impactful and meaningful journalism that left a mark on the city of Memphis.
