Manlilitag and the Cave of Gold

An orphaned boy who lives in a cave is judged because he is poor. How will he rise to the pitfalls of stereotyping? Listen to this podcast featuring an original Mandaya Story in the second episode of the Digital Oman-Oman Series of the Tagum City Historical and Cultural Center.

This episode features the voices of Vice Mayor Eva Lorraine E. Estabillo as the narrator, Coun. Alderson Rellon as Manlilitag, Coun. Ronald Eliot as Datu Bugkos, and Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative Coun. Bia Jessica Pandacan Ado as Tamisa. City Tribal Chieftain Bia Lilia Magkidong Lagunsad also narrated the story in its original form, as originally told by Datu Cristino Navarro.

Oman-Oman, when translated from the languages of the Tipanud of Tagum, means “story.” The project aims to gather and digitize these stories for future generations of Tagumenyos — and Filipinos in general — to enjoy.
