This will be a daily posting of my trip through the Bible. I will be reading the NET aloud. Each day I will introduce the passage with a brief commentary. But mostly I will simply be reading the Word of God for you. I'd love to hear how God is using this podcast to help you or answer any questions you may have. You can contact me on twitter: @nemoyatpeace or email me at DevotedToScripture@gmail.com.

#348 Philemon

Day 348 of the podcast, reading Philemon 1 NET, read along at:
https://netbible.org/bible/Philemon+1/

This is day 348 of our journey.

Today we read Paul's short letter to his friend Philemon who lived in Colossae.  The letter is written with regards to Philemon's slave Onesimus.  Onesimus (whose name means "useful") had run away from Philemon to Rome (quite likely robbing Philemon in the process).  While in Rome, he had become a follower of Christ and had been assisting Paul in many ways.  Paul emphasizes to Philemon the change that the Gospel has brought to Onesimus's life and asserts that he is even more "useful" now as a brother in Christ.  While the law would allow for Philemon to sentence his former slave to death for his crime, Paul speaks on behalf of the man, even offering to pay the price of any debt he might owe.  He sends Onesimus back to Philemon with a request that he be accepted as a brother and fellow believer rather than as a slave.

Join me in Philemon for the power of the Gospel in the life of an individual.

Key verses:

Philemon 1:6
I pray that the faith you share with us may deepen your understanding of every blessing that belongs to you in Christ.

All Scriptures are from the NET.
