On 26 July 2023, Niger fell victim to its fifth coup since independence - plunging the country into uncertainty. To help explain why Niger and its fellow Sahel countries have experienced such political turmoil in recent years, Dr. Sajjan Gohel is joined by Guillaume Soto-Mayor, a Non-Resident Scholar at the Middle East Institute, who is based in Senegal.
