Lauren Elizabeth Harris, Alejandro Valtierra and Aash Patel were inspired to create Damsels in the DMs x The Come Up Podcast through their experiences as up and coming artists and the struggles they faced along the way. There was no textbook to become an artist, no guidebook to follow, and they felt that becoming an artist often felt limited to a privileged class because of a lack of access. This podcast looks at successful artists and finds out how they became who they are, what they did, and what challenges they faced along the way. The podcast looks at a multitude of different paths and considers art as a broad spectrum, hoping to offer tools to allow others to achieve the path they desire to success, however that looks to them. With roots as a dating podcast, we will also take a holistic approach of looking at the arts as a business and find out how various creators achieve balance within their personal lives as well. Are you ready for the come up?

In this week's episode we're asking Sekai Abeni (Paper Girls, The Method), how do you book the role? After getting her start at Juilliard, Sekai walks us through how she became a successful artist by getting representation, and how the pandemic taught her to treat her artistry as a spectrum rather than obsess over acting. If imposter syndrome hits close to home as the breeze gets crisp this autumn, don't miss Sekai's practical words on owning your artistry as a whole, and how she's found fulfillment through this mindset!
