Stop Disqualifying Yourself

Stop Disqualifying Yourself

In this episode of Daily Devotionals for Nurses, Tola continues the study of Judges 6 and explores the powerful response of God to Gideon’s doubts. After expressing his pain and questions in the last episode, Gideon hears a direct instruction from God: “Go in this might of yours… Have I not sent you?” (Judges 6:14).

Rather than focus on the past or offer explanations, God commissions Gideon forward. But Gideon immediately responds with insecurity: “How can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest… and I am the least.” Despite the angel calling him a mighty man of valor, Gideon cannot see beyond his own history and self-perception.

This episode dives into what it looks like when a person continues to see themselves through the lens of past pain, perceived weakness, or false humility. Tola challenges nurses and believers alike to stop disqualifying themselves from what God has assigned, simply because of how they feel or how others have labeled them.

It is possible to walk with God and still carry unspoken insecurity. But it is not necessary to stay there.

Judges 6:14–16
“Go in this might of yours… Have I not sent you?”
“O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

Isaiah 40:29
“He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.”

God Does Not Rehearse Your Past
When Gideon asked, “Where are the miracles?” God didn’t start explaining. He gave an instruction. He called Gideon into purpose without rehearsing his mistakes or his nation’s history.

Perceived Weakness Does Not Cancel Divine Assignment
Gideon felt like the least and the weakest. Yet God still sent him. Self-doubt is not a reason for God to change His mind. It is an opportunity for you to change how you see yourself.

Stop Living in the Old Version of You
Many people are still living according to the person they were years ago. That older version may have been timid, afraid, or overlooked. But growth in God requires shedding that identity and stepping into the person God has matured over time.

God Is Not Looking for the Strongest, Just the Obedient
It was not Gideon’s strength that qualified him. It was God’s sending. The Lord gives strength to the weak and multiplies power to those with none. You do not have to be perfect to be chosen.

False Humility Is a Trap
Saying “I’m not enough” may sound humble, but when God has called and anointed you, that mindset becomes disobedience. Do not allow insecurity to rob you of assignment.

  • Are you still seeing yourself through an old lens God has already outgrown?

  • What excuse have you been using to delay your assignment?

  • Have you been waiting to feel strong instead of stepping out in obedience?

  • Have you prayed, “Lord, help me see myself the way You see me”?

There is power available for the one who feels weak. There is strength for the one who feels overlooked. God is still sending, still anointing, still speaking. The only question is, will you go?
