Movie Recap of Students who Begin Exploding in Class As They Fight to Survive - Katelyn bursts in calculus class, bloodying her peers and the room. The police detain the class and rule out an attack, but they can't pinpoint the origin of the explosion. Peers believe it may happen again, as senior student Mara (Katherine Langford) suggests during detention. Then she gets a message from an unknown person claiming to be a long-time crush: Instead of a lewd picture, the sender texts Richard Nixon in answer to Mara's request.  After the funeral, Dylan (Charlie Plummer), the mysterious texter who has a crush on Mara, approaches the two and introduces himself as Mara's best friend, Tess. Dylan recognized he had to do something about his mortality after hearing Mara's warning regarding reoccurrence. Perry Love, a jock, and Cranberry Bollinger, a drink waitress, both explode, causing terror among the visitors. Classes are postponed for now, so students call the blasts "The Covington Curse." After learning of the crimes, Carla Rosetti (Yvonne Orji) appoints Mara and Tess to help her solve them.  Mara takes a vehicle ride with the school's drug traffickers, the Dalton twins, who combust and crash. Dylan comforts a disoriented Mara, soon joined by federal agents in protective gear. The government quarantines the whole senior class while inventing a "Snooze Button" medication. Mara and Dylan keep seeing one other and living hedonistically in an old barn, having sex and dancing to 80s music. The village begins to fear the kids, and Agent Rosetti unwittingly discloses to Mara that the explosions may not be over. An explosion erupts during a school seminar demonstrating the pill's effectiveness, creating a chain reaction of explosions. As the mob separates Mara and Dylan from the building, numerous students erupt. Mara is harmed in the subsequent explosion that declares Dylan's love for her.  Mara is depressed after Dylan's death and drunkenly shatters an agent's car glass with a stolen whiskey bottle. As a result of her presence at each of the explosions, kids believe Mara is the Covington Curse. Tess invites Mara to her beach house that night after the graduation/prom. Mara gently apologizes for the explosions to the attendees, but others claim personal responsibility for the blasts. A touching conversation with his mother persuades Mara to move on. Mara apologizes and regroups.  After the rampage, a "Snooze Button" medication is swallowed and the explosions seem to halt, however 31 seniors were slain. Covington High School has been closed and will be demolished. Mara buys Dylan's milk van and moves in with Tess, as she and her parents had planned since childhood. "What else can you do except live?"
