Cyber Career Chat with Professor Greg Austin
Dr Greg Austin leads the Program on Cyber, Space and Future Conflict at the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS). He also holds an appointment  as Professor of Cyber Security, Strategy and Diplomacy at UNSW Canberra where he set up one of the world’s first Master’s programs in a public university on cyber war and peace. He has a 40-year career in international security affairs, with specialisation in cyber policy, counter-terrorism, China and Russia. He has led consultancy teams for the UK and Australian governments. Greg has worked with leaders in government and business, and with diplomats, from many countries (China, Russia, UK, USA, France, Germany) and international organisations . Greg has led several high-profile multinational research and policy projects with visible impact. He has published four books on cyber space issues and five other books on international security as author, co-author or editor. Greg is co-founder of the Social Cyber Institute and is author to several books and most recently "Cyber Security Education: Principles and Policies".  Which I would like to further explore today. I also have NSW Cyber Security Innovation Node Ambassador co-hosting today Stephen Chey. Welcome and thank you for your time today. Questions:  What are the current strengths and weaknesses of the Australian cybersecurity education system? What might we lead from international experience? What's your perspective on the opportunities for public private partnerships in cyber education? How serious is the skills gap in Australia and are we taking appropriate steps to close it? What are some examples of good practice or positive trends that we should take note of?
