Once upon a time, I was creating art without calling it that. I made up stories in my head and acted them out with my Barbies. I dreamt of faraway worlds and lived in them for a while.

Now, as a (semi) adult, my brain has decided to sprinkle in self-doubt, perfectionism, and a hearty dose of criticism — and call it a day.

In the first part of this five-part series — structured around the questions I ask myself (and attempt to answer) — I explore how we can become most free in the Act of Creation, why channeling your inner child isn’t quite enough, and how to feel less blocked, less critical, and maybe even a little okay with what you make.
