We explore trees and their impact on civilization. Starting with the historical use of wood and coal for iron smelting, highlights the environmental impact of deforestation and the transition to coal. We also discuss the rarity of complex life's evolution and the Fermi paradox (the apparent contradiction between the high probability of extraterrestrial civilizations and their lack of observed presence).
