Episode One Introduction Passion to Purpose (Santhosh CV)

Passion to purpose is a long yet fulfilling journey. I'm Santhosh. Initially, my life’s journey began with a lot of challenges and fear. Eventually, I realized that my failure to excel in my studies was due to my lack of clear purpose. In public, I did not feel comfortable speaking and expressing my views. As I watched all my peers fare well academically, I failed to realize my own potential.

However, that changed one day when I was returning from school in my village, I heard a bird chirping, and I began to feel as if the bird was trying to communicate with me. Young and innocent, I had no idea how to go about it. So I went and asked my father if the bird was trying to speak to me.

His response was, "Yes, the bird is trying to communicate with you, but in a different language.". This is when I realized I could fly along like birds, metaphorically, without being bound by culture or nationality. Then I tapped into my true potential, and that's when things started to change. It's what has led me to learn new skills, to think outside the box, to learn languages and communication.

I followed a few successful mentors.

In the weeks and months that followed, I continued to listen to foreign radio, and while I had no idea what was being said on the other side, I persevered. Slowly and steadily, I started picking up a few words, then phrases, and finally a few sentences. With every new sentence I learned, I felt more equipped and more complete. This was when I finally discovered a passion that gave me immense purpose in life.

Kannada was the first language I learned as a child in India. While I was in school, I studied Hindi and English. As I learned more languages, I felt more comfortable, and a feeling of completeness started to flow through me. There is a reason I am proud to be an Indian; I see its rich diversity and culture every 300 kilometers from my home. My desire to learn new languages was further fueled by discovering new cultures. I was finally able to discover my passion and purpose.

So, I am sure many of you would have tried to learn a new skill and failed. The point I am trying to emphasize is “failure.” People start learning when their motivation is high, and as motivation drains off, then what happens? The learning stops, and that’s the end. It was no different for me when I began learning new languages. Moreover, I had to start from scratch every time I learned a new language. In order to communicate, you must first master the alphabet, words, then combine words to form phrases, then speak sentences, visualize and vocalize the words you are learning, then visualize the image it represents. By learning a language it has provided me with a sense of accomplishment that I have never experienced before. People to people contact, bridging the gap between two cultures, regions and contributing to improving diversity and inclusion wherever I work.

In addition to fluency in five Indian languages, I have basic conversational skills in four foreign languages. I have over 18 years of experience in the corporate world, and I have a true passion for Training and Development, working with culturally diverse teams around the world. My career highlights are language learning and cross-cultural communication.

I am now on a mission to help people communicate confidently in a Cross-Cultural Environment.

A language is a tool I use to communicate across boundaries.

Join me on the journey to successful communication in the digital age.
