3. Credible Sources: An Update on the ERC

In this episode, Stephen MacNeil discusses the latest update from the IRS released on September 14, 2023, along with our immediate reaction. Discover what these developments mean for individuals filing for the ERC and how it could impact your claims. In their recent announcement (IR-2023-169), the IRS has taken a bold step to address the overwhelming influx of improper ERC claims flooding their system. To tackle this issue, IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel has ordered an immediate moratorium on processing new ERC claims, effective until the end of the year. Rest assured, claims that have already been filed will continue to be processed, albeit at a slower pace. However, it's important to note that the standard processing time of 90 days is expected to extend to 180 days and potentially even longer if selected for review or audit. Stay tuned to learn more about the implications of this decision and how it could impact your ERC filing process.
