The Anishinaabe of the upper Great Lakes won an important settlement recently. Alderville is part of the Anishinaabe Nation. A treaty signed in 1875 was not honoured. The breach involved freezing annual treaty payments at $4 per person for 150 years. As a result, a settlement of $126 billion is to be paid within six months.

Alderville Chief Taynar Simpson will explain the details and the significance of the decision and its impact on the future of the Robinson-Huron Treaty people.

Then, Chief Simpson will reflect on two important cultural events held in July. He will talk about the recent Pow Wow and the Regatta. He will share what took place as well as the opportunities for the Alderville community to share its heritage with Northumberland County.
