Ep. 60 - Loneliness after coming out - a coffee with Shaun Williams
Loneliness can feel like a constant companion when we’re in the closet. But what about the loneliness we experience – and perhaps aren’t prepared for – AFTER we come out? What did you do to feel accepted and belonging in the community? Let’s explore the loneliness we can feel after we come out in this conversation with my friend, Shaun Williams of Bent Couch Counselling. Grab a coffee and join me and Shaun and listen to his beautiful story. About Shaun: Born in country Victoria and father to four kids, Shaun finally admitted to himself and his family that he was gay in 2019. In working to overcome the challenges his new life presented, he started an international peer support group for 800 formerly married gay men with kids - Gay Fathers Worldwide. Realising life had more to offer, Shaun gave up his long-term career in public health construction and embarked on a new vocation as mental health professional servicing the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community. In 2022 he launched his own company Bent Couch Counselling which has successfully helped many men overcome many issues including anxiety, depression and loneliness. Shaun is a local leader in the Melbourne gay community as deputy Chair of the City of Port Philip LGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee and the Small business director for Globe Victoria which assists LGBTQIA+ communities, small businesses and professionals to connect. Later this year he has been invited to speak at the Australian Counselling Conference. Shaun lives in Melbourne with his new partner and is living his best life.
