Twin Hats Forge Bernie's Lifelong Friendship | Robert Warner, EP 407

What begins with two teens wearing the same red-and-white striped hat becomes a 60-year story of friendship, rebellion, and synchronicity. In this episode, Dr. Beitman reconnects with his best friend from high school, Robert Warner, to trace the strange parallels in their lives—from co-presidency and bonfires to resistance movements and life-changing coincidences. It’s a journey of shared purpose, mirrored actions, and the mysterious thread that keeps pulling them back together.Robert Warner is a retired reverend, longtime educator, and former political activist whose life took him from the student council presidency of a Delaware high school to the frontlines of antiwar resistance during the Vietnam era. A Princeton Theological Seminary graduate, Bob once burned down an ROTC building in protest and lived underground in Canada for three years, raising a family while evading the FBI. Later, he ran a successful chimney sweep business for 37 years. Bob’s enduring friendship with Bernie Beitman was forged through a chance synchronicity in high school—their matching red-and-white striped hats—and has grown stronger over more than six decades of parallel and intersecting journeys.Bernard D. Beitman, MD, is a Yale- and Stanford-educated psychiatrist and the founder of The Coincidence Project. He served as chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Columbia and has authored two books, Connecting with Coincidence and Meaningful Coincidences. Through his Psychology Today blog, podcast, and public appearances, he has reached millions with his groundbreaking work in the emerging field of Coincidence Studies.
